2021 Kitchen Cleaning Tips
Spring is officially here and it’s time to clean! To kick this season off with a good start we are giving you some of our top tips to maintain a clean kitchen.
1. Clear and Cleanse
First thing first, let’s clear everything off those countertops. Remove décor, small appliances, and cooking utensils from your surfaces and give them and your backsplash a good wipe down. Get a good deep clean to clear all the dust, grime, and crumbs from months of cooking.
If you have natural stone countertops like granite or marble, simply clean surfaces with a soft cloth using a mild liquid soap and warm water, or a natural stone cleaner to remove most residues. For stubborn stains, use a soft non-abrasive bristled brush and scrub lightly. To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover. Be sure to rinse and towel dry the surface to prevent spotting!
For quartz countertops use a soft cloth with a mild liquid soap and warm water, or a quartz cleaner. For tougher stains, use a soft non-abrasive bristled brush and scrub lightly. To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover. Wipe down with a clean damp cloth to rinse, and towel dry prevent spotting.
2. Declutter Those Drawers
Homeowners tend to dump everything in drawers. Out of sight out of mind, right? It’s time to go through them and purge all the junk. This is also a good time to clean and reorganize those utensil drawer organizers. The amount of crumbs that can fall from your counters into your drawers is surprising. Focus on one drawer at a time! Since drawers are typically small spaces you can remove everything from one, evaluate each item and decide if it earns its spot back inside the drawer.
3. Disinfect your Appliances
After cleaning your countertops, you don’t want to ruin all your hard work by placing dirty appliances back on them! Give your toaster, air fryer and any other small appliances a good wipe down with disinfectant wipes or spray to remove any dirt, dust and oil that may have accumulated over time. Be sure to also give your oven, stove and fridge a good scrub. Give those burners new life and be sure to take out the fridge drawers. It’s time to get off all of that baked-on gunk, remove those stains and leave your appliances shining!
4. Deep Clean the Kitchen Sink
According to TODAY, the kitchen sink tends to be the heart of the home’s germs. Food particles from plates left to soak or rinsed from dishes on their way to the dishwasher can serve as a breeding ground for illness-causing bacteria, including E. coli and salmonella.
We recommend washing the sink with hot, soapy water, especially after handling meat and poultry. Wipe out the sink using disinfectant kitchen wipes every day and don’t forget the faucet!
5. Finish with Flooring
Sweeping the floors is already a part of many homeowners daily routines but now is a chance to really clean and get into it! Go the extra step of washing your kitchen rugs and be sure to mop! When mopping pay attention to cracks, corners and the grout in your flooring. We promise you’ll feel like you have a brand new kitchen afterward!
